We all know about Easter. We observe Lent, sacrifice and do penance to bring us closer to God. As devoted Christians, we pray, enact all the rituals and sacred sacraments. We’re laser focused with one end insight; Easter Sunday. It’s often thought of as the highlight and the most important day of this holy season.
Often times, Easter Sunday Mass is the day we dress in our best clothes, attend church and then celebrate with a feast with our family. We think that this is the end of Jesus’s story on earth. Then, Monday begins another work week just like all the other previous ones. What a disservice to our faith, what a disservice to God.
The greatest story ever told becomes a myth; folklore. It’s just another story to be altered to fit the narrative of those wanting to persuade you. I’ll equate it to a star quarterback with 60 seconds left in the 4th quarter of the Superbowl, catches the ball and on the 10-yard line stops and simply puts the ball on the ground never crossing the field goal. That is what Easter is like if you believe it’s the most important day of the Easter season.
I urge you, that If you’re a Christian that is a true follower of God, please continue to read on. Easter isn’t the end, but a bridge connecting the physical and spiritual realms. Easter is a reflection point along the path to heaven and God’s kingdom. Not to say the “Passion” wasn’t important and a critical part to the majesty of our experience with God. It was however, a stepping stone towards completing the circle.
The Pinnacle is Pentecost
As Christians we build the foundation, do all the work, and then we stop? We are the hive mind that never acts upon its belief. In truth, the pinnacle of the entire season and what it’s all about is Pentecost not Easter. Whether it’s the neglect of Vatican II, or a charismatic parish priest, the true love of God and beauty of his works are minimized and never fully explained. You are robbed of the discovery and enlightenment.
We are sold that the end of high holy season is Easter. The thesis of Jesus’s life on earth is that he came to earth, taught the theory of love, was crucified for that, he rose from the dead and ascended into heaven. It’s like reading a book that has no ending; no final chapter to make it all make sense. The negligence of the Church leaves your soul longing to find more.
The end result isn’t Easter, it’s the Pentecost. It’s the crescendo that brings harmony and validity to our thoughts and feelings. The most common reactions when you understand Pentecost are, “So that’s what all this was about”? or “It all makes sense now”! You have a defined lens that sharply focuses on God’s plan and your purpose on this earth.
The Power of Pentecost
Pentecost is when we celebrate the miraculous Holy Spirit descending upon the 12 apostles after Jesus ascended into heaven. We reflect what Jerusalem must have been like after Jesus was laid in the rock tomb. People were fearful to be associated with their Lord God; any connection could mean imprisonment or death by the Roman guard. Many followers fled into the country side to deny Jesus.
Mary Magdelene went to Jesus’s tomb the first day of the week after his passion. She found Jesus’s body was missing and the linens once wrapped, were lying on the ground inside the tomb. She went to tell Simon Peter of this, as he and other disciples went inside to see for themselves. Mary stood outside weeping. She heard a voice, turned around to see Jesus. She was told to tell the others, spreading the word of God (Rev. George Leo Haydock’s Notes Douay-Rheims Holy Catholic Bible, 1859/2024, John 20: 1-18).
The followers weren’t forgotten as Jesus kept his promises. Jesus showed himself to the disciples many times during the next 40 days after the passion; eating meals with them and speaking of the kingdom of God. He said that they would be visited by the Holy Spirit soon. After which they were commanded to go spread God’s Gospel throughout the earth. The disciples were told to stay in Jerusalem until word came from Jesus. Then Jesus, standing on a cloud, ascended into heaven at the Mount of Olives (Rev. George Leo Haydock’s Notes Douay-Rheims Holy Catholic Bible, 1859/2024, Acts 1:1-9).
The Final Act is so much more than a Finale
What makes Pentecost such an important holiday is more than just fulfilling the prophecy of the Old Testament. By the power of the Holy Spirit, the disciples were given the ability to boldly proclaim Jesus’s message. 3,000 people converted in one day, marking the birth of the Church (Rev. George Leo Haydock’s Notes Douay-Rheims Holy Catholic Bible, 1859/2024, Joel 2:28-32).
It also signifies the transition of the Old Testament (based on laws) to that of the New Testament (based on the Holy Spirit dwelling in each one of us proclaiming God’s love and his kingdom). John baptized Jesus with water; Jesus baptized the disciples with the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit makes it possible for us to comprehend the magisterium and power of God the father, and his son Jesus. Without it, you wouldn’t be able to interpret and fully understand the lessons and meanings to follow God.
God gave you the Holy Spirit to be your conscious, to teach you and guide you on the path to heaven. Allowing the Holy Spirit to enter gives you humility, compassion, and the ability to understand God on a deeper more meaningful level. It also gives you the allowance to be like the disciples and spread the Gospel. Just think about that? Jesus is giving you the power to tell others of the mystery and love of God; saving their souls!
The Holy season of Easter leads us to the Pentecost; often glossed over or forgotten about. Understand that Easter isn’t the end to the sacred holiday. Take time to pray during the Pentecost, asking the Holy Spirit to enter you and give you guidance. Let yourself become a prophet and speak of God at all times to everyone. As you bring souls to God to be saved, you too shall be saved.
Pentecost is the last holiday in the Easter season, but it doesn’t mark the end. It starts a new infinite cycle that allows God’s message to flourish to the ends of the earth. God blessed us with the graces of the Holy Spirit, enabling us to carry his message and love wherever we go.
We need to spread his gospel with the devotion of his disciples and bring lost souls back to the love of the Holy Father.
